September 2023 - Return to Marine Reach
Return to Marine Reach!
Hey friends! I thought it was about time for an update, as I’ve been back in NZ for almost a month! My flights all went smoothly and my guitar made it safely as well. In this season of Marine Reach, we are coming out of a sabbatical and gearing up for the October DTS. This has included teachings, base work, and discussions about the school.
Teachings
The first two weeks back, we participated in some teachings during the morning. In the first week, we talked about the values of YWAM and of Marine Reach. The second week of teaching was on communication. I learned a lot, and I’ve seen so many people being intentional about communication and showing more grace within conversations.
Pilgrimage Training
In the third week, we jumped into Pilgrimage-specific training. Monday was paperwork, Tuesday was a day hike, Wednesday was gear testing, and Thursday and Friday was an overnight hike. A full week of activities and group bonding. Nothing brings a group of people together like hiking for hours in the pouring rain.
Connecting with a Church
During my time here, one of my goals is to get connected to a church and have a group of friends and community outside of YWAM. I’ve been consistently going to a church and I even went to a young adult’s “life group” this last week. I’m really looking forward to connecting more with the young adults of the church.
Working Bees
Every Friday until the DTS starts, we’ve been doing “Working Bees” or work days where we get to jump in on projects around the base to get it ready for the season to come. This has included flooring, painting, moving bunks, and cleaning. We tend to start the day with a dance circle (to set the mood for the day).
Overall, it’s been a great three weeks and I’m so glad to be back. In the next few weeks, we will be doing some more training, and preparing for the DTS students to arrive. Here are some things to keep in your prayers:
- safe travels for all of our students coming to the October DTS
- financial provision for students and staff
- wisdom within leadership as we step into this next season
- first-time DTS staff as we learn what it means to disciple and guide students
